There was a Republican straw poll in California over the weekend. Ron Paul won it pretty handily. Did anyone hear about this on the news or through the mainstream media? I sure didn’t. Ron Paul’s win was largely ignored. For example, CNN posted an article on his win, but I had to search to find it yesterday. Imagine if Rick Perry won how the media would have reacted – they would have been all over it! I mean, when Michelle Bachmann won the Iowa straw poll, there was a huge uproar in the media over her win. Now granted, California's straw poll isn't as big of a deal as Iowa's is, but still you'd figure you'd hear something about the results.
The fact that Ron Paul got no coverage for the win in California doesn’t irk me as much as what I heard today. The Republicans were going to have another straw poll - this time and Texas - and what happened? The Texas Republican party decided to cancel it. The Republicans claim they canceled the Texas straw poll due to a “lack of interest”.
I don’t believe this; I think this is pure B.S. I think the real reason the Republicans decided to cancel the Texas straw poll is they thought Ron Paul was going to win and therefore they didn’t want that strawpoll to take place. The media christened Rick Perry as their pick for Republican front-runner, and thus I think it would be tough for the media to ignore Rick Perry losing in his own state! So rather then embarrassing Rick Perry in his own state, they decided to call it off.
As I mentioned earlier, the reason the Republicans claim they called the Texas straw poll off is due to “lack of interest”. Are you kidding me? How could there have possibly have been a lack of interest? I mean, two of the candidates competing for the Republican presidential nomination come from the state of Texas and these two candidates are in a heated race. Now, maybe the lack of interest that the people attending the Texas straw poll might have is a lack of interest in Rick Perry!
