I often get asked why I carry a Ron Paul bumper sticker on the back of my car. The fact is Ron Paul is still in the race for the GOP nomination, and I will support Ron Paul whether he has a 1% chance of winning or a 99% chance of winning the nomination. So long as Ron Paul is in the race I will support him. I will not support Romney or Obama because by doing so I will compromise my principles. Romney and Obama have proven through their words and actions that they are not willing to follow the Constitution and this is for me by definition a compromise on my principles as a citizen. Since I am not willing to compromise my principles I will support continue supporting Ron Paul until either he becomes President or he is no longer in the race.
Aldous Huxley once said, " Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored". This statement is self-evident and goes without being said, and as I typed the quote here I also chuckled to myself for these reasons. But I thought it is appropriate to state, as the media this election cycle barely presented much of any facts about Ron Paul. We as the voting population need to be keenly aware of the media's actions this and past election cycles and call them out in the future when they don't give a candidate a fair shot by hiding facts about each Presidential candidate, or any candidate for public office for that matter. For fun and for my own enjoyment I compare Ron Paul to President Obama.
- He voted against the Iraq war. He does not want to go to war like Obama has. Obama has gone to war in Libya and Afghanistan without a declaration of war from Congress. Thousands of innocent people killed in bombings. Americans dying for what. Ron Paul will ask Congress and therefore the American people if it is worth the cost in lives and money for every war.
- President Barack Obama issued an Executive Order on March 16 giving the White House absolute control over all the country’s natural resources in case of a natural disaster or during a time of war. In the order, the National Defense Resources Preparedness Order, the President granted to himself the authority to approve the dispensing of all domestic energy, production, transportation, food, and water supplies as he deems necessary to protect national security.Despite the national defense hurdle that must be jumped in order for the order to take effect, the text of the document itself does not limit implementation to a time of war. In fact, the specific sections of the order make it clear that the President can take complete command and control of the country’s natural resources in peacetime, as well. I mean are you joking me? This is like what a dictator would do and it's ridiculous. Ron Paul is against any Executive Order that puts him above checks and balances of the three branches of government.
- Ron Paul voted against the Patriot Act. Obama re-signed it into law. Ron Paul is the only candidate who openly opposes the Patriot Act. http://www.aclu.org/blog/tag/NDAA.
- Ron Paul voted against the NDAA which Obama signed into law allowing the indefinite and secretive detention of US citizens WITHOUT trial. This is dictator-like, and ridiculous to think that we the people allow this to happen. Paul speaks passionately about repealing NDAA. Ron Paul is the only candidate who openly opposes NDAA.
- He voted against the "Anti-Protest" bill HR 347. Obama signed this bill into law. Ron Paul is strongly against this bill and voted against it. With HR 347 the federal government new and sweeping powers to bring charges against Americans engaged in political protest anywhere in the country. Critics claim the bill, HR 347, would make free speech a felony, and restrict political protest. Why can't I protest against someone that I think is doing a bad job?
- Ron Paul has never voted to raise taxes. He has a strong conviction to eliminate income taxes altogether. This benefits everyone, that is equality.
- Ron Paul has never voted for an unbalanced budget in his 20+ years in Congress. Obama put us in debt $4 trillion in 2.5 years. That's $4,000,000,000,000. I want to note though that the debt problem is also CONGRESS's problem and not just Obama's. Congress has not created a budget for some time so the spending has allowed to increase without end. By putting Ron Paul in office, he will slash government spending and try to balance the budget but not so quickly as to devastate government workers and other sectors of the economy that receive money from the government.
- Ron Paul has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.
- He has never voted to raise congressional pay.
- He has never taken a government-paid junket. Nearly none of his campaign funding comes from banks. Obama and Romney - their top donors are big banks. Who do you think the banks want in office? It sure isn't Ron Paul because Ron won't bail them out.
- He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.
- He voted against regulating the Internet. The only presidential candidate who speaks out against this.
Ron Paul has voted in these ways for decades, when everyone else from BOTH political parties voted to expand our monstrous federal government, restrict our freedoms and liberties, take lobbyist money in exchange for political favors, engage in unconstitutional wars, and swamp us with debt.
Is it possible that if Ron Paul were to get into office, that he does a complete 180 on some of the positions he's taken? Sure, but that's true of any politician. The fact is Ron Paul in his extended political career has voted consistently with strict adherence to Constitution even in the face of, as I mentioned earlier, lobbyist money. Is this the case of our current President? I think that is a rhetorical question. Therefore just looking at Ron Paul from this perspective, it is tough to argue that he is the best chance for our country to get back on course.
Having said these things, the choice should be easy for all of us this November. LET'S GO.
