No one can outlaw evil. Not even our President, who thinks the government is the solution to almost all problems.
However our gov't has managed to outlaw a well-educated populus by running/taking over the education system. The government effectively tells schools what children will learn. Now it is not taught in schools or at least not emphasized that in the 20th century 200 plus MILLION people - that's 200,000,000 plus - died due to genocide. Genocide is death by government. And EVERY time genocide happened in the 20th century, the pretext was taking the guns away from the people.
If we do not realize history then it is bound to repeat itself. We the people deserve to own our firearms.
